Fredericksburg City United (EPSL / MMSL )
When were you founded and what was the mission?
Fredericksburg City United (FCU) was founded in 2014 by Claude Maheshe (the owner and president) with the mission of helping young players in our community who are out of high school and college to stay active and give them an opportunity of achieving their goals.
Where are you located and who is your nearest rival?
We are located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Our nearest rival is Mototrik FC.
What league do you play in, do you expect to be there for a while or do you have aspirations for growth? We will be playing in two leagues but both leagues are in the same pyramid system. Our first team will be joining the Eastern Premier Soccer League (EPSL) for the first time and our second team will continue competing in the Maryland Major Soccer League (MMSL).
What's your playing/coaching style and what kind of players do you look for? This is an interesting question. Coach Douglas played in professional-level soccer leagues. He has brought his experience to help our young players succeed in and off the field. He has been focusing on training our guys on holding position, running movement, and quick passing by releasing the ball quicker. His experience and coaching helped the club succeed in the Maryland Major Soccer League last season.
Fredericksburg City United (FCU) is here to help our young soccer players by giving them a safe environment to continue doing what they love.
We currently have two teams at the moment and we look forward to adding more teams to better serve our community. In our first team the EPSL, we are targeting the ex-college players but we are still interested in anyone who can show his ability to compete at the highest level.
Our players from the second team will be promoted to the first team as we see their progress.
Are you connected to a youth organization in any way? What value does it provide? If not, do you see any potential in that?
We are connected to Uriah Bentick Soccer Academy. This academy is run by a soccer coach who works with players one on one and in small groups, training them to improve their skills and confidence. We have opened our door to the young players that he coaches and has recruited a player from him in the past. As we continue to grow, we hope to recruit more players from his academy.
FCU's future plan is to start a U18 to give our young players in our community an opportunity to grow professionally and achieve their goals as soccer players.
What does success look like for your club in 2021?
We are hungry!
My entire administration including coaches, players, and I (Claude Maheshe, the owner and president) are ready to win the championship trophies from both of the leagues we are participating in.
