Queen City Football Club (Cincinnati, OH)
Who are you and what's the origin story of Queen City FC?
My name is Jarrid Brunswick and I am the player/manager for Queen City FC. By manager, I mean that I am responsible for ensuring that everyone pays for league fees and we have enough players for each game. I don’t bark orders from the sideline. Queen City FC is a combination of two teams. I was playing on the house team at my local indoor facility on Sundays. The same core group of guys made up the house team, so I decided to make a permanent team. I was also playing on a team on Tuesday nights at a different facility. That team stopped playing after being together for several years. The two teams combined to form Queen City FC.
Queen City FC has not officially played a game. We will start using the Queen City FC name when our Spring session starts. I thought it would be fun to design a team badge and jerseys. I had no idea that our badge release on Twitter would explode the way it did.
What league do you currently play in and do you have aspirations for growth?
We play in a Men’s Open league on Sundays. It is a 5 v 5 indoor league. There aren’t any current plans for growth, but maybe we will have a Men’s Open team and a 35+ team down the road.
Getting into the custom kit game can be pretty fun and you've got one on the way - what can we expect and what other clubs influenced your decision to go that route?
I don’t want to give too much away. We hope to release our kit design to the public in early April. I will say that the colors on our kit will match the colors on our badge. Those colors were selected to match the colors of FC Cincinnati. I want it to be a kit that people could also wear while they watch FC Cincinnati matches. I have been working with Sportiff Company on the design and they have been great to work with. They do not equip many teams in the US, but they want to expand their footprint in the US. I have shared our design to a couple kit collectors and so far, the response has been very positive.
Queen City FC could schedule two friendlies in 2021, what teams would they be against and why?
We really do not have any local rivals. It would be fun to play someone from outside our region. AFC Columbia would be a fun choice, because their story is similar to ours.
What does success look like for you this year; winning cups, or just getting out and playing?
Success for us is having fun, staying healthy and competitive. We would like to finish at the top of our league, but it is not a priority. The league had to stop operations for several months in 2020 because of COVID, so we are just happy to have to opportunity to play.
