Peachtree Football Club (Atlanta, GA)
Who is responsible for starting the club and what is the mission?
The club was founded by a group of soccer players who met at pickup at Station Soccer, a city-wide project of mini soccer fields at local transit stations. The mission is to create a community-based soccer club that grows to higher levels through merit (promotion/relegation) and creates a family atmosphere for all involved.
With so much soccer in the region, what inspired you to get going?
We are a completely brand-new organization. We were inspired through Twitter by other grassroots teams and the impacts they have on their community.
What league(s) are you committed to or considering? Will there be a women's side as well?
We are committed to Station Soccer's 5v5 league, Silverbacks Park 7v7 league, and are looking to grow to 11v11 in either CASL or ADASL in the fall of 2022. We definitely want to grow and have a women's side as well.
A lot of clubs sell merchandise to help generate operational funds or just to help raise awareness, will you have scarves, kits, etc available? If so, where can we get our hands on some?
We have kits currently available for pre-order through September 27th. They can be purchased at https://stores.thequeenspantry.com/peachtree-fc/
What have been, or do you think will be, the biggest hurdle between now and when you play your first match?
I think the biggest hurdle will be building the back-end infrastructure to grow from being a group of guys playing a 5v5 league to a competitive 11v11 team that trains and competes in leagues where pitches aren't provided.
Are you in any way connected to a youth organization? If so, what is the value and if not, do you see any?We are working to build a partnership with a local non-profit, Soccer in the Streets, which looks to create young leaders and cultivate healthy communities through the beautiful game. It's an amazing organization that actually brought a lot of the team together through pickup soccer, courtesy of their Station Soccer program, which created soccer pitches at multiple MARTA stations in the city.
