AFC Solano (SWPL)
Your name and role with the club?
Jon Edmisten Chief Executive Officer/ Chairman
What community does your club represent?
Solano County, California Encompassing Fairfield, Vallejo, Vacaville, Benicia, Suisun City, Rio Vista, and Dixon
What is the mission of the club?
The purpose of AFC Solano is to develop, promote and administer all aspects of the game of soccer, regardless of age, sex, race, creed and/or ability. We are here to ensure EVERYONE has a chance to enjoy the beautiful game. Not all players need or want to play at an academy intense level; we strive to allow players to play/participate in all levels that best suit themselves and their families based on their skill and desire. Whenever possible the Club shall strive to offer playing opportunities at all age levels, ranging from in-house recreational teams to professional men and women's teams.
What does community mean to you?
Community starts in the word, Unity, bringing people together for the good of all of us. By not being in a large market our community does not have access to big supporters groups for MLS, USLC, European, or Liga MX clubs. We want to bring fans of the game together and be able to enjoy each others company by rallying around us but still being able to banter between the clubs they grew supporting. Further, as we grow our community we can up lift the players and families less fortunate by getting involved with local non-profits and our local governments. A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats. We hope to bring the tide to uplift our communities.
What does the club want to accomplish this season?
Our goal is gain qualification for the US Open Cup, Playoffs of the UPSL, and pu together a strong squad for NISA Nation/ Independent Cup.
Where do you see the club in 5 years?
We have big ambitions. We would want to grow a fan base where we can responsibly apply for NISA Pro and be sustainable. We also want to grow our partnerships with our local youth clubs and create a mutually beneficial academy system.
Can you describe the clubs style of play?
We play a high pressing attacking style of play from the wide areas. in possession we want our full backs to get forward with our Defensive Midfielder "quarterbacking" the game. During games with less possession we turn to a double pivot providing more support in the midfield.
Who are some players that everyone should watch out for?
Gage Rullhausen (20) our Center Back from South San Francisco has become a vocal and physical leader in our back line leading our young roster. We are looking forward to see him continue to grow and dominate matches with his speed and physicality.
Any other important information you would like to share with everyone.
We are excited to get our first full year under our belts! We know the many successes and failures that come with building a club and we want to grow with our supporters! Thank you.
