SF Metro FC (SWPL)
Your name and role with the club?
Arthur Mansbach, Head of Business and Marketing
What community does your club represent?
We are a San Francisco-based club.
What is the mission of the club?
Compete against the best teams for the biggest trophies.
What does community mean to you?
Community is something you earn. San Francisco has seen a lot teams spring up that carried a sense of entitlement. They declared themselves "The City's Team." We believe you need to earn a following. Through success on the field and connections off of it, we hope to build fanbase that's proud of our club. That might start as small group, maybe one neighborhood. It could expand to a city and even an entire region one day. We're committed to doing our part.
What are some historic accomplishments for the club?
Back to Back Championships and Promotions in the 3rd and 2nd level respectively of the SFSFL in 2018 and 2019.
2022 US Open Cup Qualifying - Debut try. Won first two games. Lost final qualifier after 10 rounds of PKs. Never gave up a goal in the run of play through all 3 games.
What does the club want to accomplish this season?
Growth. For the Open Cup, that means qualifying. This is our debut seasons in SWPL and Nisa Nation, so hard to find a benchmark but we want to put our best out there. Off the field, we want to increase our following, both in person and digitally. That means more fans at the game and more website visits / social media followers online.
Where do you see the club in 5 years?
5 years ago, Metro was a few weeks away from its first ever match. In 2022, the club will field 3 teams. It was a missed PK from qualifying for Open Cup on its debut try. It competes in the highest level of its local league, SFSFL. It's joining NISA Nation, a regional league, specifically designed to help teams transition to becoming pro. The trajectory is very promising. At this velocity, anything is possible 5 years from now.
Any other important information you would like to share with everyone.
There has been an offseason coaching change. Still waiting to finalize who will be leading the first team from the touchline in 2022.
