Catching Up With Inter Detroit
The last time we spoke was back in 2020 and a lot has changed since then! Tell us about your updated badge, who designed it, and what inspired the change?
2020 seems like forever ago! Time flies.
Our logo was designed by Mark Crosby and what a job he did. Before the start of 2022, we always felt like we were a top club but on the field we weren’t producing. It felt like a chance for a fresh start in search of glory, and we did just that. Plus black and white goes with anything so it allows us to use any color schemes kits wise.
Since you've evolved from a Sunday League team to a UPSL team, what have been your biggest accomplishments? Also, what have been your biggest failures and what have you learned so far?
Our biggest accomplishment has definitely been building our brand and the culture inside the club. All ownership, (Omar Trevizo, Jorge Medina, & Myself) are all blue collar workers and don’t have the bankroll most teams have but we work hard day in and day out to provide for our players and fans. That’s the thing we are most proud of, another one would be winning the MWPL East championship!
The biggest failure has been our time in the UPSL. Now that we have closed that chapter in our story, it was a good place for us and I have the upmost respect for Robert Brinkman, (Michigan Commissioner) but it’s too disconnected from the needs of the teams in the Midwest. We had some good times but we were never able to win a championship.
It seems like every year there is a new team or two in every city, have you seen growth in the Detroit area? How do new teams, not just new to UPSL but to all leagues, impact field availability for training and matchdays?
Every season there’s a new team and it’s great but it does make everything difficult. Since 2022 our home has been Gabriel Richard Catholic High School and we were able to lock in a multi year agreement and have full availability at our disposal.
Where are your games going to be played in 2023 and is it a field where new fans can find you? Do you charge at the gate or is it free to come and cheer you on?
Gabriel Richard Catholic High School
Riverview, MI
GR (As we call it) is only 6-8 miles from the heart of Southwest Detroit and 12-15 miles from Corktown in Detroit. May not be in city limits; however, definitely a great venue for all fans in Detroit and downriver. Kids are always free and we usually charge $10 but we are working to create a great affordable game day environment for all.
You've worked with a couple of different uniform suppliers in the past, including some bangers! Do you have a new kit planned for this year? If so, can we get a clip or a sneak peek?
We are still in the development stage but expect to release our kits early February. Just know we’re cooking something up nice with Diaza!
Does your club have tryouts? If so, when are they planned for and if not, how can guys find their way onto your squad?
Yes, we had tryouts the last week of December where we have 68 out of 75 who registered attend. Appreciate everyone for believing in our dream and wanting to be a part. We have a contact tab on our website for any potential players to reach out, who missed it.
