Major Maryland Soccer League Fall 2020 Week 10
Two 1st Division games scheduled for Sunday, November 15 with playoff implications had to be postponed. Division-leading Christos FC was to face Baltimore Kickers and two clubs battling for the final playoff spot, La Dolce Vita and Columbia FC, were set to meet each other. The latter game was especially important as the clubs are currently separated only by goal differential. The postponed games are scheduled to be played in early December.
Steel Pulse FC continued to put pressure on Christos for the top spot by defeating Maryland International FC 4-1 at Latrobe Park in Baltimore on Sunday. The same day All Star United strengthened their playoff positioning with a 2-1 win over AFC DOBES at Hammond High School in Columbia, Maryland.
Things tightened up at the top of the 2nd Baltimore Metro. IFK Maryland beat Arundel County F.C. 2-0 on Friday, November 13 at Catonsville High School. On Sunday, at Hammond High School, Argyle FC upset division-leading Sure Sports FC 2-1. Those results left IFK and Sure Sports tied for the top of the standings with only goal differential separating them. Sitting on a six-match win streak IFK has had the hot hand lately with Sure Sports dropping two out of its last three games. In addition, Argyle’s victory strengthened its third place and final playoff position.
On Wednesday, November 11, Annapolis United 2 F.C. and Classic Crew F.C. drew 1-1 at Troy Park in Elkridge, Maryland. Anna2 currently sits outside the final 2nd Baltimore Metro playoff spot but has a number of games in hand yet to play. But, the club needs to step up having only picked up one point in its last two matches.
Arundel County F.C. kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 5-1 win over Meade United F.C. on Sunday at Hammond High School. In the other 2nd Baltimore Metro matches, Classic Crew F.C. and JA Raiders FC drew 1-1.
Both clubs at the top of the 2nd Capital Beltway, Dream Team FC and DMV Rangers, were idle during week 10. The big match of the week was Maryland United FC crushing Colombia F.C. 10-2 on Sunday at Greenbriar Park in Fairfax, Virginia. With four teams in close contention for the final two 2nd Capital Beltway playoff spots, that win, along with the added goal differential, put MD United in a strong position to make the playoffs.
Fredericksburg City United helps its cause by beating Annapolis United F.C. 4-1 at Greenbriar Park on Sunday. That tied the club for a playoff spot with both MD United and Motorik FC with all three clubs sitting on 16 points but with Frederickburg currently on the outside in fifth place on goal differential. But, having only played eight and seven matches respectively, Fredericksburg and AnnaU, sitting at 15 points, both have extremely viable paths to the playoffs.
In other 2nd Capital Beltway matches, Rockville S.C. beat Limitless FC 2-1 and NPC Futbol defeated Frederick Spires FC 3-2.
