Mid-Atlantic Round-Up

UWS League Two News

The big news this past week was the announcement by United Women’s Soccer that UWS League Two will launch a Mid-Atlantic Conference for the upcoming 2021 season. The conference will comprise four clubs: Annapolis United F.C. from Annapolis, Md.; Keystone FC from Mechanicsburg, Penn.; Maryland-Elite S.C. from Prince Frederick, Md.; and Lancaster Inferno FC from Lancaster, Penn. The latter club will field a reserve team in UWS League Two while its first team will continue to play in the main UWS league.

UWS was launched in 2016 after the USL W-League folded and has positioned itself as a national pro-am league that provides elite amateur level competition. It is sanctioned as a national league through USASA with hopes of becoming a true second division below NWSL. UWS League Two was formed in 2020 as a development league focused on U20 & U23 players serving as a feeder to the main UWS league. UWS League Two will consist of a combination of UWS reserve teams and as a way for new clubs to bring themselves up to the standards to join the main UWS league.

Washington Premier League Fall 2020 Week 12

Only one game was on the docket for the final week of the Washington Premier League Fall 2020 season. PRP-20 met the Conquistadores at Fall Church High School on Sunday, November 29 with playoff implications at stake. The Conquistadores needed a win to jump over Yinz United and take the regular-season title. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Not enough for the Conquistabores but enough for PRP-20 to get them into the fourth and final playoff spot over DCFC on goal differential.

The WPL Fall regular season ended with Yinz United on top with 24 points and the Conquistadores one point behind. World Class Premier Elite ended third with 20 points. PRP-20 and DCFC ended with 17 points each but the former club held on to the fourth spot with a +13 goal differential to DCFC’s +6.

The semifinals for the Helge Boes Cup are set with both games at Falls Church High School on Sunday, December 6. PRP-20 will meet Yinz United at 4:00 pm and World Class Premier Elite will meet the Conquistadores at 6:15 pm.

Maryland Major Soccer League Fall 2020 Week 12

The Fall 2020 Maryland Major Soccer League season winds down as clubs complete their schedules in order to complete the playoff picture. All games this past week were played on Sunday, November 29.

Only one 1st Division match was played last week with All Star United meeting Columbia FC at Latrobe Park in Baltimore. The All Stars took the match 4-1 and climbed within one point of division-leading Christos FC. But, with a couple of games in hand, Christos still looks to be the team to take the division regular-season title. The loss by Columbia didn’t knock the club out of playoff position but kept them from locking it down.

As with the 1st Division, there was only one 2nd Baltimore Metro match played last week. Annapolis United 2 F.C. took on Argyle FC at Latrobe Park with Argyle picking up the 3-2 win. The win pushed Argyle to the top of the 2nd Baltimore Metro standings by a point over Sure Sports FC and IFK Maryland. Those top three are all but set for the playoffs but AnnaU2 has an outside chance needing to run the table to make it.

Two games were played in the 2nd Capital Beltway, both at John Lewis High School in Springfield, Virginia. Dream Team FC beat Rockville S.C. 2-1 and Fredericksburg City United edged out Limitless FC 2-1. Dream Team stayed at the top of the division standings as the club looks toward the playoffs. FCU’s win also ensured its place in the 2nd Capital Beltway standings.

A hugely important match with playoff implications between Motorik FC and Annapolis United F.C. was postponed. Motorik needs the win to hope to make the playoffs. The other 2nd Capital Beltway match between DMV Rangers and Frederick Spires FC was canceled.
