MASL Update: Week 14 Recap
Week 14, what a week. Mexican teams kept doing what they do, Kansas City and Baltimore continued their dance, and Milwaukee grinds out a win. So much action and highlight moments, if you missed it, here is your recap.
Friday, February 23rd
Monterrey Flash 9-2 Harrisburg Heat
Monterrey takes a trip to the States, and their first stop is Harrisburg. The Flash traveled with a light roster and the back-up keeper, Christian Hernandez, who is a solid goal keeper, got the start. Despite these two factors, Monterrey still controlled this game and won comfortably. They kicked off the scoring with Edgar Gonzalez getting his first goal of the night. That was pretty much the game for the night, Monterrey would control and score and eventually the game would end 9-2: the Flash continue their undefeated run.
Chihuahua Savage 9-3 Dallas Sidekicks
The other Mexican team is also on an undefeated run. Since their loss against Monterrey, the Savage has not lost to anyone and this game against Dallas would not be any different. The game would start with Chihuahua scoring four unanswered goals, then Dallas would go on a three-goal run, and then the Savage would go on a five-goal run to end the game 9-3.
Saturday, February 24th
Baltimore Blast 5-4 Harrisburg Heat
As many stated, Baltimore has not won in Harrisburg all season long. The Heat started the game with three quick goals, but Baltimore would chip away at the lead until they eventually took it back in the fourth quarter. The game looked to be Baltimore's, but with 32 seconds on the clock Harrisburg would score and send the match into overtime. Baltimore would end up winning with a golden goal from Josh Hughes, however that lost point could hurt them in the end of the season.
Sunday, February 25th
Milwaukee Wave 8-7 St Louis Ambush
This was probably the best game and the worst fourth quarter the Ambush have played all season. St Louis would kick off the game and control it until about midway through the third quarter, where they had a lead of 7-3. Milwaukee would go on and tie the game in the fourth quarter and, to top it all off, they get the golden goal to steal the two points. This one had to hurt St Louis.
Monterrey Flash 8-6 Utica City FC
What a game from Utica. The score line does not show how much Utica pushed the Flash. From beginning to end, these two traded off sets of two goals. First Monterrey would score two goals, Utica would score two, and this was the story until the whistle blew with Utica down by two. Stars of the game were Franck Tayou with a hat-trick and Edgar Gonzalez and Ismael Rojo with a brace.
Kansas City Comets 9-4 San Diego Sockers
The final game of week 14 and probably the most surprising result. Pechanga Arena is known to be one of the toughest places to get a win and for seasons the Sockers have not lose here. Kansas City showed them this isn't the same place. First Chihuahua and now Kansas City, this is first time in a long time the Sockers have lost two in the regular season at home.
Kansas City controlled the game from the first quarter through the end of the fourth quarter. The Comets won this by outshooting, outscoring, and outplaying San Diego.
