Maryland Major Soccer League Fall 2020 Week 13
The Maryland Major Soccer League was in the middle of the final week of the Fall 2020 regular season when implications of the pandemic put the competition on hold. On Thursday, December 10, the league released a statement that the season would be postponed because restrictions on sports gatherings meant fields were unavailable for league matches. The MMSL plans on completing the season when the restrictions are lifted and it is safe to continue games.
The week prior to that, the league held its slate of week 13 matches. In the 1st Division, Christos FC continued its dominant play on Monday night, November 30, at Latrobe Park, defeating AFC DOBES 8-0. Jamie Merriam and Jacob Bender both scored a brace. Kyle Saunderson, Brian Graham, Joe Sefoi, and Mike Zierhoffer, the Christos goalkeeper, also scored goals.
On Sunday, December 6 at Latrobe Park, Steel Pulse FC and Columbia FC drew 1-1. The score meant Steel Pulse stayed at third in the standings but left Columbia barely hanging on to the last playoff spot. The other 1st Divison match on the same field between Christos FC and Baltimore Kickers was postponed.
In the 2nd Baltimore Metro, Sure Sports FC beat Annapolis United 2 F.C. 3-2 at Latrobe Park on Sunday. That result pushed Sure Sports into sole position of first place and did major damage to AnnaU2’s hopes of making the playoffs. Earlier in the week, Annapolis 2 had easily handled Meade United F.C. 8-0 on Wednesday, December 2 at Latrobe Park. In the other 2nd Baltimore Metro match scheduled Sunday at Latrobe Park, Classic Crew F.C. gained a 5-0 result over Arundel County F.C.
In the 2nd Capital Beltway, with leader Dream Team FC idle, DMV Rangers evened them on points by gaining a 5-0 result over Colombia F.C. in a game scheduled on Sunday at Latrobe Park. Annapolis United F.C. solidified its playoff position with a 5-2 win over NPC Futbol on Thursday, December 3 at Latrobe Park. In other 2nd Capital Beltway matches, Colombia District FC got its first win of the season beating Limitless FC 3-0 and Rockville S.C. beat Maryland United FC by the same score. Both games were played Sunday at John Lewis High School in Springfield, Virginia.
