Protagonist Comics Launches Today
We’re really excited about this one!
We’ve been working on this project for over three months (and we’re still working on it!) and we’re thrilled to share our first American soccer history themed webcomic. We’ve partnered with a very talented webcomic artist Jules Royce Andersen to bring these ideas to a new format. While the comics are short, they are entertaining, informative, and very professionally made.
We’re big believers in soccer history at our site. From our many “Kicking Back” articles, which highlight American soccer history, to our Vital Vintage throwback kits, we’ve tried to promote the history of the American game. Until soccer fans understand their own history, they will never realize the potential of the sport in this country. This webcomic is just another tool to help people understand the history that so many have forgotten.
Our first comic highlights the story of Vampire Association Football Club, which played in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1900s. Its theme is perfect for this time of year and the story has fascinated our staff since we learned it.
Massive thanks to our talented partner on these comics, Jules, and the historian who introduced this particular comic, Brian Bunk. Both of them are amazing in their own fields and we’re honored they worked with us. Of course, this comic wouldn’t have happened without the original article and research by Josh Duder. That article was rereleased this week and you should definitely read it: Vampires in the City.
Some may complain that the comic is short. That is true, because we operate on a small budget and these things are expensive. In fact, were it not for the generous pricing from Jules, even this wouldn’t be possible. If you’d like more, consider helping fund our work by joining our Patreon. We have big deams and would love the support!
There are more comics coming, including one that is almost finished and several in the planning phases. We’ll continue to try to be the best we can be for the beautiful game in this country. Part of that is about pushing boundaries, but always being true to who we are: fans of the American game. Thank you for continuing the journey with us.
