The NISA Narrative - Chattanooga Needs to Eat

The Detroit Machine marches into Maryland

One of the consistent stories we hear from DCFC players and staff is that Keyworth always brings the best out of the visitors. Matt Lewis went far enough to say that scouting was worthless because the team they got on Saturday just wasn’t the same as the one they were doing scouting on. Certainly some of the toughest matches Detroit has faced this season have been at home. The opener against Chicago and last week’s brawl with New Amsterdam are proof that clubs that might struggle elsewhere will bring their A+++ game into Keyworth. And yet, +1 presists.

This week, Detroit City goes on the road to face Maryland Bobcats. The Bobcats are on 7 points from their last three matches (DCFC is on 9) so both clubs come into this match on good streaks. But MDB’s streak sort of fails to compare to Detroit’s road success, not having lost a match since July of 2018 (NGS supplied that stat via twitter). Dan Creel has predicted a win for his hometown Cats. I think he’s crazy. I think the machine moves on, +1.

Best match of week 7 doesn’t involve Detroit City

Detroit City has dominated NISA since day one, but this weekend features a matchup of two clubs on the rise that is definitely worth your streaming time (unless your NGS, just watch NISA NOW). Cal United is hosting Michigan Stars on Saturday and this one should be an awesome matchup. While LA Force has been the big story out of Southern California (runner-up last season and holding the second spot on the table currently), Cal United Strikers are sitting third, trailing LA by a single point and Detroit City by 4. The club is playing well and managed a draw against LA Force in last week’s SoCal Derby.

The visiting Stars have quietly snuck up the table after a slow start and a very disappointing finish last season. Now at week 7, the team is sitting in 4th place, 3 points back from Cal United. A road win would catapult them into the top 3 and into the running for a solid finish this season. New additions in attack have really paid off for the Stars and its showing in the scoring. This is not your daddy’s Stars.

Who wins this one will have a big impact on the standings AND could set the tone in the second third of the season.

Chattanooga needs to eat

After a very disappointing first third of the season, it’s time for CFC to eat and the table is set in its next two matches. Home and away matches against struggles 1904 should offer the perfect chance for the Chattanooga attack to get back on track. While two matches with a result would be nice, CFC needs to win and win big in both matches. Next on the schedule is back to back against Cal United. 6 points makes 3 or 4 points a positive for the Tennessee Blues.
