Denton Diablos 3 - 0 Irving FC

Picked this as my 1 last week and it proved to be what I had expected. “Denton won the NPSL in 2021 and, after a shortened run in the USOC, wants to kick off this regular season with a bang.” Bang indeed. It was the kind of win that can set the tone for a season just getting started. Damon Gochneaur, Diablo owner, saw the win as important so early in the campaign. “With very little time to get everyone back in camp and on the same page, I was extremely pleased with the 3-0 result against what is always a very talented and difficult Irving FC.” Brandon Cerda put in the first just before halftime and two more goals followed in the second half from Carlos Flores and Davis Mays. Both clubs get the same matchup for their next match with a rematch at Irving.

For a season-opening match, the Panthers came in clicking, scoring 4 goals in a dominant performance. Shaoschi Etienne, Ryan Sandidge, Kevin Kelly, and Maximiliano Viquez all scored for the Central Florida. Etienne also assisted on one of the other goals. The win puts CFSC at the top of the standings in the Sunshine Conference, tied with Naples United.

Georgia Revolution 2 - 4 Appalachian FC

Appalachian FC opened up their season in the squatchiest of ways, hanging 4 on the defending conference champs. The Revs have had a massive roll over in their roster, only returning two players from a very successful campaign last season. Appalachian struck first, when Kevin de Lang scored early off a Rev’s defensive error. After a second AFC goal, Lewis Green would score two goals in 4 minutes to put Georgia back in the match. Appalachian would score twice after the 80th minute to set up a happy drive home with three points. They will face Apotheos FC next week. The Kennesaw, GA-based club dropped their opening match. George Revolution will hope to bounce back against LSA Athletico Lanier.

This Weekend

Can’t beat a week two matchup between the top clubs in the North, Duluth FC and Minneapolis City FC. Both of these clubs are always competitive and this year looks to be more of the same. Duluth won emphatically in week one, hanging six goals on Joy Athletic, while MPLS City won its matchup with Twinstars 2-0. This matchup is always fun and having it so early in the season leaves a ton of mystery about these clubs, how good they are, and how they matchup with each other. Should be a fun one! Saturday the 14th, 7p.
