NPSL Roundup
Med City 1 - 4 Duluth
Welp, I picked this as the match to watch and it did not disappoint. After Med City traveled to Duluth and lost 2-1, Duluth went on the road this weekend and won 4-1. That win put Duluth in the driver’s seat at second place, even on points in one less match. Sidney Warden punched in two for the road team, putting him in the top spot for golden boot with an unbelievable ten goals in 7 matches. He’s on fire! Duluth has MPLS City circled on the calendar on June 30th, as the Crows have dominated this division all season long. Med City still has all to play for with three match against opponents down the table before their season finale with MPLS City.
FC Frederick 2 - 6 FC Baltimore Christos
Christos run this season has been mindblowing. A perfect 6 for 6 in matches, scoring 22 goals and giving up 4. The team is 8 points clear of second place after 6 matches! In this weekend’s match, four players scored for visiting FCBC, but Kelan Swales stole the spotlight by getting a hat trick. The English forward, who plays his college ball with Loyola, scored first for his club and kept the pressure up all match. For the homeside, Yann Kouemi and William Eska both scored, doubling the total number of goals given up by FC Baltimore Christos all season. Up next for FCBC is Virginia Beach City FC, which they beat 1-0 in the club’s first meeting. FCF will host Northern Virginia United next.
Kingston Stockade 3 - 0 Boston City FC
Stockade continues its season-long undefeated streak with a home win over Boston City. After Vincent Colantuono scored late in the first half, the homeside would add two more in the second with Hugo Guerra and Petro Klishch each grabbing one. The shutout was the fourth of the season for Kingston and the win put the club in first place of North Atlantic Conference. Whether or not they can hold onto that spot will be tested this weekend when they face Valeo FC, who sit at second, trailing by two points in the standings.
Cleveland SC 2 - 0 Syracuse FC
You couldn’t ask for a tighter conference than the Rust Belt, making wins absolutely vital every single weekend. Cleveland, sitting in the top spot by a single point, thanks to this win over Syracuse. Both goals would come at the end of their respective halves, with Chris Cvecko scoring in the 41st minute of the first half and Jannis Schmidt putting in one at the death. Cleveland goes on the road again next week to take on second place Pittsburgh Hotspur, with first place in the balance. Syracuse will face Erie Commodores, hoping to get win number one.
Denton Diablos 1 - 0 Irving FC
Wouldn’t be an NPSL Roundup if I didn’t check up on Damon’s Diablios, so let’s check the standings in the Lone Star Conference. Diablos sit in the top spot, but Midland-Odessa Sockers are hot on their heels, just a point back. All that pressure makes matches like this weekend’s so important. After a scoreless first half, Denton went up 1-0 in the second after Antonio Perez scored. And that would be it. Giving Denton another 3 points and first place (for the moment). I checked the rest of the schedule and spotted that July 10th will be Denton’s final match of the season, in Midland, against the Sockers. Should be a big one!
This Weekend’s Match to Watch
