Protagonist Picks 'Em - September 28th and 29th
Another great weekend of soccer all across the US and our writers and podcasters picked out a few games they think you should check out! Looks like New York is getting a lot of love this weekend with games in the UPSL, EPSL, and USL Super League - the Big Apple is having a kick about. We also hear about games in the Bay State Soccer League, the Mountain Premier League, and the Metroplex Premier League. Let’s get stuck in!
Josh Duder Picks…
NY Renegades FC vs NY Bravehearts in UPSL
Sat, 09/28 - 4:30pm PT / 7:30pm ET
at SUSA Orlin and Cohen Sports Complex
There’s a good old fashioned ding-dong of a game in New York this weekend as first place NY Renegades host second place NY Bravehearts. Renegades have won five of five and have all 15 points from their effort; meanwhile, Bravehearts have three wins and a draw - should they win they’ll put themselves on 13 points and still have a game in hand on Renegades. This is crucial if Bravehearts have any hope of stealing this division from Renegades but they’ll have to shut down a hot Reneau Rances who has 12 goals and Sebastian Restrepo, who has bagged 6 of his own for Renegades. This game should be fireworks!
Ben Brannigan Picks…
Coppell FC vs Villareal NTX in UPSL
Sat, 09/28 - 8:00 pm CT / 9:00pm ET
at Coppell Middle School North, Coppell, TX
Villareal NTX in second go to Coppell FC in 7th in the early standings of UPSL Texas fall season table. Villareal are 2 wins and 1 loss to start the season off with a galiant win last time out coming from behind to beat Sporting North Texas last time out. Coppell FC are 1 win and 1 loss after 2 games with a win last time out against Texas Spurs. All the makings of great games in store in Coppell Saturday night, get out and check them out.
Josh Duder Picks…
Providence City FC vs Kendall Wanderers FC in Bay State Soccer League
Sat, 09/28 - 9:00am PT / 12:00pm ET
at Milot Field in Rehoboth, MA
A funny thing happens when I pick a Rogues game for this… it gets postponed or forfeited. Providence City are comfortably mid-table and are playing Kendall Wanders, who could admittedly use some points, as they are in the relegation zone. However I thought I saw somewhere that the Rogues are in a deep run into the BSSL McKenzie Cup and I can’t tell if they still have to play that semifinal or it's done and dusted.
Dan Vaughn Picks…
Brooklyn FC vs Lexington SC in USL Super League
Sat, 09/28 - 4:30pm PT / 7:30pm ET
at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium in New York, NY
Coming off a big win against Dallas Trinity, Brooklyn looks to extend its winning streak against a struggling Lexington SC. The match is at home for Brooklyn and should be a fun one for the home side.
Josh Duder Picks…
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 2 vs Timbers SC in Mountain Premier League
Sat, 09/28 - 2:00pm MT / 4:00pm ET
at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, CO
Young Gunz FC have torn up this league in the first three matchweeks, getting 9 points from three played and have a massive +14 Goal Differential. Despite losing to them in week two, Switchbacks 2 have a chance to make up some ground when they host Timbers SC - however, Timbers SC could leapfrog Switchbacks into second, depending on other results. All while Young Gunz have a week off.
Michael Battista Picks…
KidSuper Samba AC vs NY Pancyprian Freedoms in EPSL
Sun, 09/29 - 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET
at Randalls Island - Icahn Stadium, New York City, NY
A team competing in 2025 US Open Cup Qualifying takes on a team that already has its spot booked in America’s national championship tournament. KidSuper, playing its fourth straight home match, are seeking consistently as their defense finally woke up last match and only allowed one goal against Zum Schneider FC 03. The Pancyprians, the defending National Amateur Cup champions, are as packed with talent as ever as former Gold Star FC Detroit forward and ESPN Top Ten plays recipient Junior Rosero leads the squad with three goals in two games. Funny enough, this is also a battle of teams that share home venues with New York City FC II of MLS Next Pro, with the Freedoms sharing Belson Stadium at St. John’s University and KidSuper recently got a new roommate at the historic Icahn Stadium.
Ben Brannigan Picks…
Olimpia Dallas vs Walia FC
in Metroplex Premier LeagueSun, 09/29 - 3:00pm CT / 4:00pm ET
at Gateway Park on 1st Street in Fort Worth, TX
Walia FC had a big win the first time out, but they went down last time to Warriors United FC, so they will be looking to get back on the winning column again this week. A Strong Olimpia team will be out to stop them doing that of course and looking to gain their W to and mount a serious challenger for honors this season. Sneaky good game in store here, hoping to see goals here, both teams play good attractive ball. Get out and support the teams Sunday.
Dan Vaughn Picks…
Sacramento Republic vs New Mexico United in USL Championship
Sun, 09/29 - 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET
at Heart Health Park in Sacramento, CA
One team has clinched a playoff spot in the West and New Mexico United looks every bit the part of a potential champion. Sac has had almost as good of a season, sitting third in the standings. But NMU is coming off two wins, while Sac has lost two straight. Should be an interesting match between two great combatants.
