San Antonio Corinthians Join the WPSL
Corinthians FC San Antonio are one of the newest teams to join the WPSL this season. Corinthians may be new to the WPSL they are not new to soccer in Texas. In their short existence they have been racking up the trophies, sending players to play in college and international clubs. A strategic move to continue to provide more competitive soccer for their players. Their men’s team this year moved up to NPSL. Both teams will be competing at a higher level having proved their worth every step of the way to get there. This was earned and paid for in sweat and minutes on the field.
Corinthians women’s team has been having some strong results for only two years in existence. They started playing in UPSL Women, they earned three West Texas conference titles in a row. Corinthians are a competitive team that that have a strong work ethic. Every time they step on the field there is a laser focus and edge to grind a full 90 minutes.
Playing year round is now occurring for this women’s soccer team. Women’s Sunday league, is not just for fun when they play, but to win. They are intent to implement what they learn on the pitch, continuing to improve. They are able to get game experience against solid competition, former college and pro players. For now, in the offseason it’s their younger players getting the experience against bigger and faster opponents preparing them for the season.
The results of their performance and work speak for themselves with the destinations of their players. Corinthians defender Clarissa Martinez became a “back to back” NJCAA Regional Champion with Hill College. Former player Jewels Pacheco was called up to play with the Puerto Rico National Football Team. Pacheco signed her first professional contract with Club Santos Femenil, competing in the Liga BBVA MX Femenil. Former Captain Ana Cmapa debuted in Liga BBVA MX Femenil for PUMAS MX Femenil against FC Juarez. Corinthians first team goal keeper, Raeanne Garcia earned a spot on Team USA in the Arena Soccer World Cup Championship in Ukraine 2021.
This season they will be playing in the Red River Conference Southern Division. Red River Conference has seven teams. This is a competitive conference that includes the former UWS National Champions and NWSL Houston Dash affiliate Houston Aces. AHFC Royals with a top ECNL youth team to feed talent. Lonestar SC who produced some of the top youth national players in their DA/GA system. Conference battles for position at the top happen every game. This season is sure to be exciting with the new addition.
