The Outsider in Atlanta - Day Two
So Friday was the best day.
We started in regional meetings - ugh - and moved to lunch where I had an decent turkey sandwich.
Then, after lunch, we went into the vote for national adult commissioner positions, and the UPSL thought they could just self nominate and win and - they got brutalized.
It is obvious. USASA hates the UPSL.
UPSL commissioner Yan Skwara finished last in the vote for a place on the adult advisory board, and UPSL blowhard Luin Frazier got his ass handed to him in his bid to place himself as the adult rep to U.S. Soccer.
They - the UPSL - thought they could just come in at the last minute, self nominate, and take over.
Clearly, the UPSL is used to just taking over until someone tells them to stop, and USASA finally told them, emphatically, "No."
It was something.
Actually, it was glorious. Seriously, eff those guys. The audacity to think they could just step in and take over.
After a nap, we went to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the most amazing experience, playing on the same turf as the 2018 Major Leagie Soccer champions. It was awesome.
We played with Cindy Parlow Cone, J.T. Batson, etc., and beat them. They had more players, more skill, and we played like a team and dominated them.
I had an assist and a goal contribution, and we had a blast. Free drinks, free food, free fun.
It was brilliant, and must've cost Arthur Blank an absolute fortune.
But then former USSF president Carlos Cordiero showed up.
Right?
Totally bizarre and totally amazing. I thanked him for kicking SUM out of USSF, and he said "You are welcome."
What else? We talked to Eric French from USSSA, and he told us that we "operate on the fringes."
Guess what? USSSA operates on the fringes. They're not a soccer organization. They're an amateur sports group, and they're bad at soccer.
Why are they here? They get a vote in the adult advisory board, but to what point? They're an insurance company, mostly for softball. They really have no business here.
Truth is, the UPSL & USSSA think they're smarter than the room. And that makes them assholes to EVERYONE.
Again, it's been a really good day.
