Under the Lights: Atletico Boston (BSSL)
When was your club founded, by whom, and what is the mission?
The club was originally founded in 2010. At the time, we were known as Southie FC. However, after a steady decline between 2018 to 2021, I took over the club for the 2022 season and renamed it to Atletico Boston.
Tell us about your badge and colors – what is the inspiration, and does it connect to your community in any way?
No specific reason for the colors. For the badge, we wanted to show the iconic Zakim Bridge as it's one of the most recognizable landmarks in America.
What league or leagues do you play in? Why did you choose that league?
We play in the Bay State Soccer League. We like the league because of its pro/rel setup as well as its high level competition.
Do you sell merchandise or have plans to? If so, where can we find it and what are you most excited about? If not yet, what are you working on?
Not yet. We're working on selling some team gear. We've recently been promoted to the top flight and we're working on increasing our social media presence as well as working with more small businesses in the area. Once we gain a bit more of a following, we'll start to pop out some merch.
What are your goals and aspirations heading into next season?
We're currently in the offseason. Our goal this year is to win every competition we're in. As far as plans for the future, we would like to build a club that talented young players want to be a part of. We also want to help promote small businesses in the area and build the club as an important part of the community.
If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
We would like to play some teams in the UPSL to see where we are as a team.
