Under the Lights: Everett City FC (WISL)
When was your club founded, by whom, and what is the mission?
Everett City FC was founded in 2022 by Angel and Uriel Herrera who are two cousins that have love for the game of Soccer. With Uriels time playing in Bellingham for multiple years, he wanted to be closer to home (Snohomish, WA) with continuing a high level of indoor soccer. Which brought the idea of bring a new club to our local community. When Uriel brought the idea to myself (Angel) I was fully onboard! I run my own real estate business and I have a passion for building/creating new opportunities. I thought it was a great way to expand and add to our local soccer community which contains top-caliber pool of athletes. We have a diverse community in Snohomish county that doesn’t always get the exposure that it deserves. Our mission is to continue to provide a platform for the local athletes who can compete at high-level and display the talents being cultivated in our community.
Tell us about your badge and colors – what is the inspiration, and does it connect to your community in any way?
Our badge has different shades of green as Washington state is known as the Evergreen state. This brings us to “The Destroyer” in the center of our logo that represents the Naval base in our city (Everett,Wa). We wanted to represent our city and display the best aspects of it. The waves represent the scenic views of the Puget Sound you can see from the city of Everett.
What league or leagues do you play in? Why did you choose that league?
At the current moment we play in the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) and have participated in the King’s cup which is a charity tournament hosted by MASL player Franck Tayou. We look to expand in the following years and look to add exposure to the young talent in the area.
Many clubs choose to sell hats, scarves or replica kits - how does your club keep the lights on and cover its league costs? How can interested people support you?
Our main source of revenue is ticket sales on game day and sponsors that are willing to support our cause. An expenses not cover by the main sources of revenue is taken care of by Uriel and I. We hope to make our merchandise profitable in the coming years, which has been taken over by Press Printing a local printing shop. They allow us to add to our brand exposure with quality apparel that anyone can display. Our apparel shop can be found in our Instagram Bio.
How has this season gone for you? What were the goals and aspirations heading into it? What is something to work on for the future?
We currently sit 6-3 with the beginning of our season being a difficult schedule, but we’ve found a good rhythm in the second half of the season. Our goal going into the season was to continue the progress of last season in developing good indoor soccer and finishing at the top of the league table. We believe these goal are achievable based on dedication, effort, and overall quality our squad has. In the we want to continue developing and add to our gameplay. We want to continue to engage with our local community, youth clubs, and provide a better fan experience.
If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
A team we would like to play a friendly against would be against would be the Tacoma Stars Pro side. As they are the closest MASL team in the area. We like to show the young talent and quality we have and how they would match up against the Pros. Why not the Seattle Sounders as well, you never know.
