Kingston Stockade FC (NPSL)
Kingston Stockade are headed into their 8th season of existence, what was the mission of the club when it was founded and has the focus changed since then?
The focus of the club has always been to provide an open source for lower level, soccer, and teach others how they can start their own club in their own communities. We think we’ve been extremely successful in doing that, and since then, we have added additional missions that include creating a great fan experience, putting a great soccer product on the pitch and creating opportunities for youth soccer players, that are accessible to all.
Tell us about the name and the badge - how is it connected to your community?
Our club is named after the stockade District in uptown Kingston. It was a Dutch settlement in the mid-17th century. The stockade was a wooden fence that surrounded the city. During the American Revolution, the stockade protecting the first Capitol of New York was burnt.
Some clubs are the top end of a youth program; some clubs work closely with youth programs; some programs don't have anything to do with youth soccer - how involved with youth soccer are you and do you see value in it?
We see great value in youth soccer. We are constantly working with clubs and teams from around the area to help provide them with support during their trainings. We have created an under 23 team and will begin an under 20 team this season. We are working in a top down approach to build our youth system and support our first team.
Does the club or its supporters (or both!) volunteer for programs or organizations in the community? How can our readers help?
Our club is volunteer run and our supporters group is very involved in our community. To get involved, readers can buy season ticket donations that we supply to local youth groups and the Dutch Guard has plenty of opportunities to get involved on their socials.
What league do you play in, why did you choose that league and how did you finish last year?
We play in the NPSL. We finished in 5th place last year.
What is the focus of improvement for this offseason? What changes or improvements do your fans have to look forward to?
We had a difficult 2022, falling short of postseason. We are working to retool our first team and build our futures programs. 2023 will be a transition year as we will need to find a temporary home while Dietz Stadium is under renovation. We are currently working to secure our 2023 location.
