UPSL National Finals, Spring 2023 Preview

One of the largest leagues in the country, which regularly brings together some of the most interesting and diverse teams, is set to host its Spring 2023 National Finals this weekend, at Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia. In what will truly be a Finals to remember, four conference number one teams will collide to find out who the UPSL’s Spring Champion is.

Home of Loudoun United, Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia, will play host to the Spring 2023 UPSL National Finals with both Semifinal matches kicking off on Friday, August 4th.

The first matchup with feature Chicago Nation vs AS Frenzi and first kick is at 2:30pm Pacific / 5:30pm Eastern on the UPSL YouTube Channel. Chicago Nation finished first place in the Midwest-Central Conference accruing 9 wins, 1 draw and a loss from 11 games played in the regular season - that’s a solid 2.44 ppg (points per game) and were led by Zakhar Shkidchenko who’s 16 goals and dynamic attacking play helped them blast past Goshen City 3-0, and Detroit United 5-0 in the opening round of the playoffs. A tough FCY NY held Chicago Nation to just one goal in the Quarterfinal, but it was one more goal than NY scored and Chicago find themselves headed to the ‘ship.

AS Frenzi may be their toughest opponent yet. The winners of the Florida-Central Conference boasted an identical regular season record but were able to amass a +42 GD (goal differential) and had four players score at least 10 goals this year; Yan Diomande (11), Blair Dorman (11), Abraham Oshodi (10), and Charles Christian (10). With goals pouring in from the attackers, as well as the midfield, AS Frenzi blasted past Tennessee Temp0 7-1 in their respective Quarterfinal, but did have to work to get past City Soccer FC 3-2, and Leg-AZ World FC 3-2 in their opening playoff games. The winner between Chicago Nation and AS Frenzi advance to the Championship game on Sunday, August 6th also on the UPSL YouTube Channel.

Semifinal number two is slated to kickoff at 5:30pm Pacific / 8:30pm Eastern on the UPSL YouTube Channel and will feature Sporting Wichita (who according to the league standings page only gave up 4 goals on the season, but the list of results shows 7 goals given up during the regular season) vs CD Delfines de Abasolo. Vitor Geromel leads Sporting Wichita with 10 goals but with their defense, they may only need one or two to get the job done on Friday. During the playoffs, Sporting has played a steady game of control and have a 2-1 win over MPLS City, 3-2 win over Total 90, and shutout a tough Indios Denver team in the Quarterfinal.

Club Deportivo Delfines de Abasolo, who were number one winners of their Arizona Conference, finished the season with a 2.5ppg and only a +26GD, both the lowest of the four remaining playoff teams. However, they played lockdown defense in their Quarterfinal match, winning 1-0 over Valley FC 559 and in the previous round had a very impressive 1-0 win over Chiriacos FC, who before that loss, were the only team in the UPSL who had zero losses this Spring. Bryan Medina leads the way for CD Delfines with 16 goals but if their defense stays tight, as it has all playoffs, they might only need one to get the job done. Winner advances to Sunday’s Final and the loser will play against the loser from Semifinal 1 in the 3rd Place match on the UPSL YouTube Channel.
