UWS Keyworth Showcase Goes to Midwest United FC
What has been a great showcase tournament ended in a 3-1 win for Midwest United FC over host Detroit City FC. Both sides managed to apply pressure, but Midwest United was just better at finishing. The match was played in an empty Keyworth stadium, though NGS still managed to impact the match, with their “Smokey the Bot,” a remotely controlled smoke-producing set up, which now has its own twitter account.
The scoring kicked off early, when Macy Hollingworth scored in the 9th minute, putting the visiting side ahead. That lead didn’t hold for long, as DCFC got an equalizer from the foot of Caroline Fleming, who finished off a blocked shot from captain Sara Huge. Stephanie Curry put in the 2nd goal for Midwest United, which would be the decider of the match. She had an amazing Showcase, scoring 5 goals. Marti Corby tacked one more goal near the end of the match to finish off the scoring.
The third place match went to Lansing United, who defeated Livonia City 3-0. The entire showcase was a great example of the quality of UWS teams, with exciting play in all the matches. It certainly leaves much to look forward to from future league matches, though with the current pandemic situation (which seems to be worsening) it’s hard to know when that might happen.
