MASL Recap: Week 10

Week 10 had eleven games of which four ended in overtime! That means we got to see four golden goals and many broken hearts. So let's start with Tuesday, game one of twelve.

Tuesday, January 23rd

Monterrey Flash 9-4 Milwaukee Wave

Milwaukee vs Monterrey, at the time, the battle of the first and second place teams of the East. In this game we would see Monterrey start off on the front foot. They controlled the first whole half, scoring five unanswered goals. Milwaukee would push back a bit in the second half but three additional goals by Monterrey would prove the task in Arena Monterrey to be too big for the Wave to see out.

It should be noted that Milwaukee was without key players like Marcio Leite and Breno Oliveira, also they started without Willie B in goal.

Thursday, January 25th

Texas Outlaws 8-6 Milwaukee Wave

The second game of Milwaukee’s six-day spring would see them in the Mesquite Arena. This game started so well for the Wave. Scoring two goals to Outlaws' one goal in the first half. The second half the Texans would take control and see out the game 8-6. The Outlaws were led by Vini Dantas with a hat trick in the third quarter. This would make two losses for Milwaukee.

Tacoma Stars 7-6 Empire Strykers

The first Cali visitor to the accesso ShoWare Center would be the Empire. This game would be a battle to the last whistle. Tacoma's Jamael Cox and Nick Perera would score 5 and 3 points, while the Strykers were led by Marco Fabian with 4 points. This was one of the most exciting games of week 10 without overtime.

Friday, January 26th

Utica City FC 7-4 Harrisburg Heat

Utica went to the Equine Arena and handled their business. This game went like most of the games between these two have gone this season. It starts close and then Utica finds their flow and takes off running with the game. The four unanswered goals in the second and third quarters won the game for the City.

Chihuahua Savage 13-2 Dallas Sidekicks

Corner Sports Arena is a tough place to play. Dallas has learned this lesson in the past. This was the first visit to the Savage fortress this season and it was not a pretty one. Chihuahua outplayed and outpaced the Sidekicks in all aspects.

Saturday, January 27th

Harrisburg Heat 4-3 Baltimore Blast

Harrisburg Heat win their first game of the season! To make this victory even better, it was against their rivals, the Baltimore Blast. This game started in Baltimore's favor but Harrisburg did not lay down and accept a loss. They fought back and after a scoreless third quarter, they tied it in the fourth quarter, sending the match into overtime. Dom Francis would sign his name on the golden goal, to give the Heat a much needed victory.

This game showed two things, Baltimore does not have many offensive options and drive, and the Heat do not like to lose to Baltimore.

San Diego Sockers 8-2 St Louis Ambush

St Louis was on a Cali road trip, their first stop was San Diego. This was very much a Sockers game. Scoring 7 goals before the end of the first half pretty much signed this game to be over. The good news for the Ambush, they got to see the Eskay brothers score. Besides that, it was mainly the San Diego show.

Monterrey Flash 4-3 Milwaukee Wave

The final game of the Milwaukee six day marathon and the second overtime game for the weekend. This was a very different game compared to the game six days prior. Both teams played a more defensive style and it was more about possession. All the goals were scored in the first half and it was Irvin Mojica who would get the golden goal for the Flash.

Utica City FC 7-3 Kansas City Comets

Going into the game, Kansas City was on a four-game losing streak and Utica was on a two game winning streak. The last time these two faced off, Utica won it in overtime. This game would be different. Utica looked a lot more comfortable and could go toe to toe with the Comets. Taking the lead early, though the Comets tied it up twice, City would find a way to pull away with four unanswered goals and eventually the win.

Texas Outlaws 12-7 Dallas Sidekicks

The Texas Showdown. What a weekend for Vini Dantas, in this game he scored five goals and three assists, an 8-point game. This man literally had a direct part in 8 of the 12 goals scored. The first half was all Outlaws and the Sidekicks would find some goals in the second half of the game but at this point it was a little too late.

Empire Strykers 8-7 St Louis Ambush

The third overtime win of the weekend and the second leg of the Cali road trip for the Ambush. This game started with Strykers in control, ending the first half with a score of 5-2. In the second half, St Louis would find itself in the lead after a five-goal run but Empire would score and tie it up with five seconds on the clock. Of course, Marco Fabian would get himself a golden goal, assisted by Justin Stinson, the two of whom lead the team to victory as they played a part in seven of eight goals on the night.

San Diego Sockers 8-7 Tacoma Stars

The final game of the weekend and a fourth overtime win. This was a very hard fought match. This game had goals in all quarters and, for the first time this season, Nick did not lead the Stars, Jamael Cox did. The Stars, at many times in the match, led and had a comfortable lead but San Diego did not want to lose. Scoring four goals in the fourth quarter to send it into overtime, where Tavoy Morgan would get the golden goal and win for the Sockers. A great way to end the weekend.
