WPSL Adds Napa Valley's Finest
The already loaded WPSL Pac North Conference went out to wine country and brought one more friend to the party. The Women’s Professional Soccer League, which is the largest women’s soccer league in the world, has teamed up with Napa Valley 1839 FC to add them as the 14th expansion team headed into the upcoming 2022 season. “Adding a women’s team to our Napa Valley family is going to put us on the map in a much bigger way,” Arik Housley, Napa Valley 1839 F.C. co-founder and co-owner, said. “We are honored to be part of the growing sport of women’s soccer and will offer a world-class experience as we are known for here in Napa Valley.”
While sides like FC Davis and Cal Soccer Storm already have established rivalries, it likely won’t take long for Napa Valley 1839 FC to get stuck into the competition. The men’s side, which plays their soccer in the NSPL, have been well-supported and competitive since their 2016 founding and there’s no reason the organization would start a club without a plan to back it to the hilt.
The organization regularly brings high-quality competition from outside their league for exhibitions - not entirely to showcase their own talented players, but because it’s literally part of their mission to bring entertaining, high-quality soccer experiences to their supporters as a way of showing their appreciation for a shared love of the beautiful game. Additionally, the club goes above and beyond with meaningful bespoke kits and leverages the sales of those shirts to give back to their community.
We’re looking forward to seeing the team in action this summer, and maybe bearing witness to the next biggest thing to be planted in Northern California since George C. Yount planted the first grapes in Napa Valley.
