Weekend of May 10-12

We have an exciting weekend of grassroots soccer ahead. Chattanooga FC opens their 2019 season this Saturday with a road game against Inter Nashville SC and you know I love me some Boys in Blue. Also on Saturday is the first in state matchup of the season between rivals Atlanta SC (formerly Atlanta Silverbacks) and Georgia Revolution. On Sunday, Crossfire Redmond take on PDXFC in the NPSL’s Northwest division. Another great one to keep an eye on will be Detroit FC opening up their 2019 campaign at home. Also, keep your eyes open for a brand new weekly media poll ranking the lower league sides starting Monday. This is the most excited I’ve been for a weekend of grassroots action in a while! No matter what part of the country you’re in or which team(s) you support, there will be some high quality games on.

AFC Ann Arbor returns to action this Sunday against Kalamazoo FC after a mixed start to the season. After winning away at Michigan Stars to open their NPSL season, the Mighty Oak crashed out of the US Open Cup at Lansing Ignite on Wednesday. They will be hoping to get back to winning ways as they branch out for their first game at their new home of Concordia University; a multiyear agreement was announced in February that will see Ann Arbor move to the more permanent home after hopping around area high schools since the team was founded in 2014. Meanwhile, K-Zoo will be aiming to put one over on their Michigan rivals, who also happen to have been their first ever opponent in a match played almost three years to the day. The Mighty Oak won that 2016 game 2-1.
