Club 9 Sports Exits UWS Partnership
“Club 9 Sports, with its investor group, and United Women’s Soccer have decided to pursue separate paths to creating a new women’s pro soccer league. NISA and UWS remain allies in pursuing equity in the women’s game. Club 9 will continue to develop a new women’s Division II league.” This was the statement given by NISA to Protagonist Soccer this morning.
A reason for the dissolution of the partnership was not given.
No word yet on what this means for UWS, as well, who are now left in the lurch and will either need to rethink if a division 2 professional league is feasible or find a new financial backer.
We also can only assume what this means for Carrie Taylor, managing director of the NISA + UWS partnership, who was tied closely to Club 9 Soccer and naturally would probably move to manage NISA’s division 2 women’s soccer league instead. The last time we spoke with her, reaching a September 1st deadline for receiving sanctioning from USSF was still her top goal, along with finding and approving teams and ownership groups to join the league for their inaugural season. Carrie Taylor has also recently taken on a position with NISA team Stumptown AC as the head of operations.

Editor’s note: we mistakenly referred to Club 9 Sports as “Cloud 9.” That has since been corrected.
