Hapeville City FC (Georgia)
When were you founded and what was the mission?
We are not a typical competitive soccer club. We’re more a social club that loves soccer. We formed on March 1, 2019 and we hosted our first Coed Kickabout on March 12th. We had 5 people show up the first week with each week gaining more and more people. Our mission is quite simple. Have Fun, Play Soccer! Our biggest goal is to get adults in the Tri-Cities area out of the house and onto the pitch to play the beautiful game. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned player or if it’s your first time on the pitch. So many of us would just go to work and come home and get stuck into a routine. This was a golden opportunity to get people in our community do something active. We have all become great friends off the pitch as well. We have a great relationship with our sponsors Arches Brewing and S&S Fire Pits and we host our social events there. Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic, all that came to a halt in March 2020.
Where are you located and who is your nearest rival?
We are located just 7 miles South of Downtown Atlanta in Beautiful Hapeville, GA. Our town is home to the Dwarf House which is the first Chick-Fil-A restaurant. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy was raised here and he graduated from Hapeville High School. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport boarders our city to the South. The nearest clubs we play against are our friends at Atlético Hapeville and Castleberry Hill Athletic Club.
What league do you play in, do you expect to be there for a while or do you have aspirations for growth? We have not had the opportunity to play in any organized leagues due to the COVID pandemic. Once it is safe to start playing again, our plan is to once again host our weekly “Free” Coed Kickabouts, join the Sons of Pitches FC (7v7) Soccer League, & the Soccer in the Streets (5v5) Station Soccer League.
What's your playing / coaching style and what kind of players do you look for?
We like to change up our playing style to keep the other team guessing. We look for anyone who has the passion to play the beautiful game. We have players from all walks of life and different skill levels. We play hard and we enjoy or time together after a match.
Are you connected to a youth organization in any way? What value does it provide? If not, do you see any potential in that?
Currently we do not. The City of Hapeville has youth soccer in the summer. Or focus has been to get adults out of the house and onto the pitch. In the future as we grow, there is definitely an opportunity to join forces.
What does success look like for your club in 2021?
As we mentioned earlier, hosing our Coed Kickabouts, entering the Sons of Pitches FC and Soccer in the Streets Soccer Leagues. We would also like to strengthen our bond and host more social events with our awesome sponsors Arches Brewing and S&S Fire Pits.
