Maryland State Soccer Association 2021 Cup Season
ROWLAND CUP
The Rowland Cup, Maryland’s Open Championship, moved to the knockout round this week with two semifinal matches. On Tuesday at Cedar Lane Field 6 in Columbia, Maryland, Columbia FC pulled off a mild upset defeating Steel Pulse FC 1-0. In the other semifinal, Yinz United met Christos FC at Troy Park Field 2 in Elkridge, Maryland. Christos has been on a tear this spring in cup play handing out crushing defeats left and right. But, the Christos club found a tough opponent in Yinz United and needed to grind out a 3-2 win to make it to the final.
STEWART CUP
The Quarterfinals of the Stewart Cup, Maryland’s official amateur cup competition, wrapped up this past Sunday with three games at Laytonia Park in Gaithersburg. Christos easily handled Motorik FC 9-1 in the early game with Yinz United taking out Baltimore Kickers 7-1 in the follow-up. In the final game of the day, Steel Pulse blanked Columbia FC 4-0. The Semifinals will take place this Sunday at the same field. Yinz United will face All Star United in the 11am match while Steel Pulse will attempt to stop the Christos juggernaut in the 1pm match.
MARYLAND OVER-30 CUP
With two teams receiving byes to the Semifinals, the lone Quarterfinal Maryland Over-30 Cup match took place on Sunday with Maryland United edging Columbia FC at Laytonia Park. The Semifinals will take place this Sunday at the same field. Baltimore Kickers will take on Christos at 3pm and Maryland United will face the Fighting BOBs/Yinz Legends O30 team at 5pm. The cup final will take place on April 7.
MARYLAND OVER-40 CUP
The Maryland Over-40 Cup Semifinal match between Columbia FC and Baltimore Kickers will take place on Wednesday, March 31 at Troy Park. The winner of that match will face Christos FC in the final. Christos received a bye.
Eastern Premier Soccer League spring 2021 season update
The EPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference’s inaugural season began play on Saturday, March 20. In the first match, VA United traveled to Montgomery Blair HS in Silver Spring to face Maryland Bobcats II. Taylor Gray put the Bobcats on the board first in just the second minute and VA United scored a penalty in the second half for a 1-1 draw. NoVa FC hosted Fredericksburg City at Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg and won 4-0.
This Saturday, the DMV Rangers FC face the Bobcats reserves at Montgomery Blair and VA United travels to Evergreen Sportsplex to take on NoVa FC. In addition, on Thursday, March 25, VA United traveled to take on the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium in a scrimmage match.
DC Premier League spring 2021 season update
The DC Premier League’s spring season got underway on Sunday, March 21 with games at Barrie School in Silver Spring, Maryland. In the noon match, MSGA blanked Federal City Wanderers 1-0 and in the follow-up the FTSC Rainbow Unicorns beat La Tocadita 3-1. In the final match of the day, Oranje edged DCFC 3-2. Three more games will take place this Sunday at the same venue. Del potrero will face TVZ, the Rainbow Unicorns will take on DCFC, and Oranje will face the Wanderers.
Washington Premier League spring 2021 season update
The spring 2021 season of the WPL also kicked off on Sunday, March 14. After two weeks of matches, the fall champs, PR Performance Fitness - Conquistadores, along with Aegean Hawks FC and World Class Premier Elite sit at the top of the standings with six points each.
Six games will take place this Sunday, March 28. At Limerick Park in Fairfax, Virginia, Starliners FC will play Capital City and ASA Reds will face the World Class Premier Elite squad. At Robinson High School in Fairfax, Aegean Hawks will take on the Conquistadores and VA FC will play Doradus FC. Finally, at Falls Church HS, DCFC will play Buena Futbol S.C. and Estudiantes FC will take on Alexandria United FC. Finally, on Wednesday, March 31 at Robinson HS, the Fighting B.O.B.s will face Yinz United.
