Maryland Majors Week 5

Week five in the Maryland Major Soccer League left the 1st Division with a logjam at the top of the standings. Wins by La Dolce Vita and Christos FC left the top half of the division all tied with seven points. Christos and Maryland International FC top the division with a goal differential of nine on equal goals for and against. But, Christos have the edge having played one less game than Maryland Inter.

On Sunday evening, October 11, at Catonsville High School, Christos blanked Baltimore Kickers 5-0. Dan McCleary kept a clean sheet in goal and Brian Graham scored a brace. Christos will face FC Motown from Morristown, New Jersey in a North East Super League match this Sunday at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland.

At the same time at Atholton High School in Columbia, Maryland, La Dolce Vita squeaked out a win over Maryland Inter 1-0. Chris Panian scored the lone goal and Nick Oppel kept a clean sheet. One additional 1st Division match was played on Friday, October 9, when All Star United defeated AFC DOBES 1-0.

Blowouts highlighted the action in the 2nd Baltimore Metro Division. On Wednesday, October 7, division leader, Sure Sports FC, routed Classic Crew F.C. 7-0 at Troy Park in Elkridge, Maryland. IFK Maryland did that one better by blanking Meade United F.C. 8-0 on Sunday at Catonsville High School. Argyle FC kept pace with the division leaders with a 0-0 draw against Arundel County F.C. at Atholton High School.

In the lone 2nd Capital Beltway match on Wednesday, Annapolis United F.C.’s 5-1 win against Colombia District FC kept AnnUnited within striking distance of a playoff position. CDFC’s loss at Troy Park kept the new club at the bottom of the division standings.

In the Sunday 2nd Capital Beltway quadruple header at John R. Lewis High School in Springfield, Virginia, wins by Dream Team FC and Maryland United FC kept them at one and two in the division. In the morning match, Maryland United defeated Limitless FC 4-1 on goals by Alex Goycochea, Rutilio Morales, Ryan Senior, and Ude Ezekwem. And, in the 1 pm match, Dream Team beat NPC Futbol 5-3.
