Crows Nab New Head Coach
Hard to find a bigger name in amateur lower league soccer than Minneapolis City. The Crows have built a solid presence in the soccer community through sharp brand management, flashy kits, and an excellent track record in player development. That combination has contributed to almost a decade of success for the club and made it a destination for talent at all levels.
This morning, the club added to that history of talent with one of the bigger names in midwest soccer. Carl Craig has been named the new head coach for MPLS City. The Newcastle-born Craig has an extensive and impressive head coaching resume, including stops with Minnesota United (NASL) and Forward Madison (USL1). Accompanying Craig onto the MPLS coaching staff will be Peter Rivard and Tom Kleczewski. John Pucci will stay on as the goalkeeper coach.
Dan Hoedeman, the club co-founder, is thrilled with the move and talked about it in the club’s press release. “It is an exciting time for City. This is a top level coach, a top level staff, and they are committed to the local, uncorporate vision. Carl understands this club and he and his staff have the experience and quality to get us to the next level.”
Former coach and current GM Matt VanBenschoten was equally excited about the new coach. “I’m delighted to have Carl join. He is a local legend with immense experience in the upper levels of the game, but most importantly he understands who we are as a club. He shares our commitment to Minnesota players, to our community, and to building something special together.”
The addition of Craig spotlights the level of esteem MPLS City has attained. Even as a small amateur operator, the club has made the right decisions over and over again. Popular on and off the field, this front office has been an example of how to grow organically, laying foundations to sustain the club in the future. Craig’s signing should continue that trajectory.
MPLS City currently play in USL League Two.
