NPSL 3 + 1
Tallahassee SC 2 - 2 Jacksonville Armada FC U-23
Picked this as my match of the weekend and it did not disappoint. It was a hard-fought match between the clubs that went back and forth throughout. Tallahassee would score first, in the 13th minute, when Sy Fontenot put the ball in the back of the net. Jacksonville would equalize early in the second half, only to see that evaporate just ten minutes later. Alex Ierides would save the day for the visiting side, drawing a penalty and scoring against the keeper to escape with a point on the road.
This weekend, Tallahassee will face Florida Roots while Jacksonville will take on Southern States.
Napa Valley 1839 6 - 0 Oakland Stompers
It was a wild match that featured two red cards in the first half, one for each side, but it was also a one-sided affair in the goal scoring department. Napa Valley scored the first goal just two minutes in and never looked back, putting in 3 goals in each half. Joseph Restani scored the opener and added a late one for his brace. 4 other Napa Valley players scored. Dario Pavon, who scored the winner last weekend, scored this weekend as well, but picked up a red in the final minutes of the first half. He remains in the fourth spot for the golden boot.
With the win, NV1839 holds on to its slim lead in the Golden Gate Conference over El Farolito. Stompers fall to the final spot, with only a single point in league play so far.
SC Brave Lions 4 - 0 FC Arizona
After a slim win in its season opener, SC Brave Lions came to play against FC Arizona, winning in convincing fashion, 4-0. Justin Wright put in the opening goal in the 20th minute and the scoreline would remain that for the rest of the half. In the second half, Brave Lions would add three more to their total.
The win for Brave Lions keeps them perfect in league play and in the top spot of the Pacific Conference. In fact, BLSC is the only team with a win in the conference so far. FC Arizona falls to third place and will face second place Las Vegas Legends next weekend.
The Weekend
I mentioned that this weekend would bring a host of most sides kicking off their 2022 NPSL campaign and the schedule explodes with great matchups. For my money, can’t beat Denton Diablos vs Irving FC. Denton won the NPSL in 2021 and after a shortened run in the USOC, wants to kick off this regular season with a bang. Playing metroplex rival Irving is a great way to do that.
