Under the Lights: Port Orchard (Cascadia Prem)
Port Orchard FC was recently announced, but when was the club first conceived and what inspired its founding?
The idea of a Cascadia Premier League (CPL) team for greater Kitsap has been around since 2020. “Kitsap County FC” was floated but Covid hit and things didn't take off. As we regroup from those days the new plan was to specifically locate in the City of Port Orchard and launch in 2024. However, the CPL was keen for us to begin in 2023 and their reasons made sense. Mostly, it was about a core group of local guys who were ready right now.

Tell us about your badge and colors – who is behind the design and what is the connection to your community?
The POFC badge has classic elements and subtle shading. The fir tree is the main symbol. Just beneath are waves and rolling hills. Our Club Coordinator David Falk created the design in concert with GM Sam Ironside and Head Coach Pat Leonard. Then we sought some professional advice for tweaks. Douglas Fir trees populate much of Port Orchard. The Sinclair Inlet is the body of water between PO and Bremerton. The historic old downtown is set between the inlet and steep rising hills.

What league will you play in? Why did you choose that league and how often does the club re-evaluate where it plies its trade?
The Cascadia Premier League aligns perfectly with our core beliefs of community and promotion and relegation. We will start in the second division with hopes of earning promotion as soon as possible. We like the CPL's regional vision for Washington, Oregon, Idaho and even Montana and see how we could be in the CPL a very long time and elevate our club as the league itself elevates. Do you sell merch or have plans to? If so, where can we find it and what are you most excited about? If not yet, what are you working on?
We are just beginning the process. We have a Bonfire store for hoodies and t's. We will be selling our Levo Soccer kits at some point soon. https://www.bonfire.com/store/port-orchard-football-club-store/ See also: https://gopofc.com/2023/01/21/levo-soccer-delivers-dynamic-designs-for-first-everport-orchard-fc-kits
Where will you draw players from? Will there be, or have there already been tryouts?
We will daw players from Kitsap County, Pierce County and (if they cross the sound by ferry or drive around) the greater Seattle area. Our focus is providing a place for locals to compete regionally. Our player interest form has been filled out by 50 guys over the last 3 weeks. Open tryouts are coming in late March.
What are your goals for the season? What will be a marker of success?
We are grateful to already be experiencing moments of success just in the few weeks since we announced ourselves. We have been in the 2 main local newspapers, sold 68 season tickets (ongoing effort, current drive ends Feb. 23), garnered sponsors (more on the way) and created a little “buzz” about us around town. Our Facebook group has exploded recently with 171 members. Over 100 in the last week have joined. We have a supporters liaison who has lived in PO all his 43 years of life and 'gets' soccer culture as a member of the Sounders fan base. So we already feel like we are on the right track. Success in year one is continuing these early signs and building on them. On the pitch we want to earn promotion straight away. If we contend for that, we will feel it has been a successful debut.
